SAFRA Singapore Bay Run and Army Half Marathon 2009. - to be updated

This morning is AHM. Missed last year due to illness. So was glad to be able to attempt this.

0530 is the flag off time. Woke up at 0250 hrs. Did the usual preparation. Brought 2 packets of power gel and one water bottle for my fuel belt. Eat some bread and left home at 0330 hrs. The plan is to pick up Kok Meng at Bishan and Khoo at Tampines. After reaching Bishan taxi stand at 0350 hrs, Kok Meng was no where to be seen. Give him a call and he said that he slept again after waking up. So off i went to pick Khoo at Tampines and went back to Bishan and pick Kok Meng again.

Wow... there was some jam while exiting Orchard Road. Luckily, there was still carpark lots at Raffles City. Quickly parked at B3 changed and proceed to the start point.

It was almost 0530 hrs when i reach the esplanade bridge. Didn't hear the countdown, heard from others that it start 5 minutes early.

Proceed to ran a slow pace. With the pain at the foot of my right leg and new pain at the calf of my right leg, the target is to finished in 2:30 to 2:40. It was a very well organised race, adequate water point with water point stretching for very long. Maybe 20-30 metres. So there was not much jam at the water point. Some water point even have cold 100 plus.

The fast runner have finished the east coast park portion before i even reach the east coast park. Some parts of the east coast was pitch dark, so i took off my sunglasses to see better. Took 1 power gel at around the 55 minutes mark. As banana is provided along the way, took 1/2 a banana at around the 1:20 mark and took the last power gel at around the 1:50 mark.

Still can remember that at the 16km mark, my timing is just a little below 2 hours. At the 19km mark, decide to give my legs a break and do a run-walk strategy. In the end, cross the finished point at around 2 hrs and 36 minutes.

Went back quickly to the car and changed up, then proceed to meet the rest of my colleague. Manoj, Kok Meng, Eddie, Khoo and Yuen See is already there. Tom DNA due to sickness. Rama came in after some time. No news from Stanley.

Took some pictures as usual. Yuen See stay back to wait for Kooi Eng. Kok Meng and me went to Raffles City for breakfast. Kok Meng receive a sms from Stanley saying he went back home already.

Highly likely that i will be back next year.
