Run Round Singapore 2010.

Last night ran with one of the 9 core runner (Teng Teck Hou) from stage 33 to stage 36.
Started around 2220 hrs and break off around 2350 hrs.
As i had forgotten to bring my footpod back, i decide to run without starting the polar watch.

Each core runners are supported by a group of pacers, 1 police escort and 1 car.

Total distance done should be around 10-11km as i need to run home.

A big salute to these guys, by the time they arrived at stage 33 (Layar LRT station), they would have done 99km.

As of now (1412 hrs), 6 of the 9 runners are still running. The first runner have completed more than 200km and left about 3-4 more stages to run.

Updates.

3 new local marathon records set at NTU Run Round Singapore event

SINGAPORE : Three new Singapore records were set in the NTU Run Round Singapore event on Sunday.

The records were for the longest marathon of 218 kilometres, the fastest runner to complete that distance, and the longest distance covered by a woman athlete.

The fastest marathon runner, Yong Yuen Cheng, completed 218 kilometres in 31 hours, 28 minutes and 51 seconds. The female marathon runner who covered the longest distance is Adeline Yong Yean Pin, who completed 129.3 kilometres.

The relay proved to be arduous, and some runners from the core team of nine dropped out halfway.

One of those who completed the run is MediaCorp Chinese news editor Lim Nghee Huat.

Mr Lim said: "I feel very relaxed and look forward to another event - probably five years later - organised by NTU. When I reach the age of 62."

Proceeds raised from the marathon will go towards supporting financially-needy students of Nanyang Technological University. - CNA/ms

Yong Yuen Cheng finishes 218km Run Round Singapore ultra-marathon first; 5 of 9 runners finish

Singapore, Sunday, March 28, 2010 – Yong Yuen Cheng, 38, was the fastest finisher in the Run Round Singapore ultra-marathon. Yong, a teacher, finished in a time of 31 hours, 28 minutes and 51 seconds.

Five out of nine runners finished the gruelling 218km route that took them all over Singapore.

Each runner had a support car and pacers who took turns to keep them company on the long run. The pacers also did extra duty, running to and from the support vehicle to supply the runners with food and drink. The support crew for each runner was invaluable and Yong Yuen Cheng was quick to pay tribute to his.

“I always believe if I am trained to run 50% without support, my support crew will push me through the other half,” Yuen Cheng told Red Sports.

Delle Chan, a National University of Singapore undergraduate, trained under Yong in canoeing at National Junior College. She was not surprise that her ex-coach managed the feat.

“As a coach, Mr. Yong holds firm to his beliefs. He strongly believes in a committed and disciplined training ethic. Under him, we trained up to twelve times a week. His philosophy is essentially that of ‘Mind Over Matter’. H e constantly emphasises the importance of ‘heart and soul’. I believe that his amazing feats are testament to the tenacity and transcendence of the human spirit,” said Delle.

The run was organised by the Nanyang Technological University to celebrate its 55th anniversary and it raised $218,000 for the school’s bursary fund. It is Singapore’s longest run.

Final Results
1st Yong Yuen Cheng – 31:28:51
2nd Chua Kok Chiow – 32:32:05
3rd Melvin Lee Hua Qun – 33:10:35
4th Stephen Lim Nghee Huat – 34:35:39

Mazda 3 SP. Tyre changed and wheel alignment.

Went to Braddell CDGE (comfort delgro engineering) to change tyre and did wheel alignment. Total mileage done on stock tyre (Bridgestone Turanza ER 30) is 40,xxx km.

Had to change as the right front inner tyre thread wearing is much more than the rest of the 3 tyres. Hope that this wheel alignment solve the problem.

Went with my colleague Stanley, reach there around 0845 hrs. Only collect the car around 1230 hrs. He left earlier as he does not need to do wheel alignment.

Tyre changed to Yokohama DB Decibel (ES501), supposed to be those quieter tyre.
My first choice was the Bridgestone Turanza GR90, but they do not carry it.

Damage for tyre (205/55/16) = $150 x 4 = $600.
Wheel alignment = $60

Total damage = $660 x 1.07 = $706.20.
