Run NUS 2009.

This morning is Run NUS 2009. First time running this. Supposed to be one of the tougest race in singapore with lots of up and down slope. There is even stairs to climb.

0730 is flag off time, 0630 to report. Woke up at 0515 hrs. Did the usual preparation. Brought 1 water bottle along to top up water on the way. Also brought 1 pack of power gel.

Left home at 0550 hrs and pick up Kok Meng at 0605 hrs. Travel via CTE and AYE to reach NUS. Reach there at around 0625 hrs and Eddie came shortly.

Proceed to the track and field to register and was scheduled to start in wave 1. The queue to register was short, but the volunteer queue was long. Unfortunately was not able to exchange my M size singlet for L size. The rest of them was sitting at the spectator stand and did not queue up to register. So they registered late and was scheduled for wave 2 which was approximately 10 minutes later. The only person that was in wave 1 is Sam.

We waited at the starting point. The race did not start on time (0730), it only started at 0800 hrs, almost 1/2 hour delay. So off I go, the course is indeed a see-saw course. Short up and down slope which was very taxing during the first 2 km. Sam overtook me within 2km and i tried to follow him. Took a look at my polar and HR was more than 170. There was no way for me to maintain this HR for the rest of the way, so i ease off and Sam promptly disappeared from my sight.

Midway point, there was a long long long up slope (i suppose to go up the Kent Ridge Park). There are section that run on planks and steps to climb down and climb up. After my polar registered 9km, Kok Meng overtook me. The wind has picked up speed and it was very windy. Droplets of rain soon started falling. After the 10km mark, the rain started pouring and the last 2km was literally running in the rain. Shirt, pants and shoes were wet. The feeling of running in the rain was very shiok. The last time i ran in the rain was last year 5km punggol inaugural run.

Run back to the NUS track and field finishing point and i stopped my polar at 1:12:20. Kok Meng and Sam was already there. The rest came back in the following order, Manoj, Eddie, Yee Tat, Stanley and Rama. As the starting wave is different, the actual ranking should be something like this.

1) Kok Meng. 1:00:26
2) Manoj 1:03:12
3) Yee Tat. 1:07:13
4) Eddie 1:09:xx
5) Sam 1:10:xx
6) Kok Yong 1:12:10
7) Stanley 1:22:xx
8) Rama - 2:03:xx

As i was rushing for time, i ran in the heavy rain again to the Sport and Recreation Club. Hopped into the car and drove home.
