The full length of the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway will be opened to motorists on 20 September 2008. To celebrate the completion of the longest underground vehicular tunnel in South East Asia, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is organising the Swing KPE to provide an opportunity for the public to be one of the first to walk and run in the unopened portion of the KPE tunnel (Phase2). Participants will also get to enjoy exciting activities in the tunnel!
Woke up at around 5:30am.
Got prepared and have a dump. Left the house at around 6:10am.
Reach Kovan at around 6:45am.
Wait for 2 of my colleagues and board the bus to the start point.
Quite a short bus queue.
Reach the start of the tunnel. They dimmed the tunnel for the first 2km so that they can broke the guinness record for the largest lantern parade in a tunnel.
Was hitting below 6 mins for the first 4km. But after that, timing for every km is getting from bad to worst. The tunnel was stuffy except for some places where there is ventilation fan. There was only 2 water points. No 100+ or H2O. Only new water is given out.
Start walking after the 9km mark. Ended up with a poor timing of 1hr 8mins+. My colleague finished just behind me.
Collected the goodies bag after the run. The was such a long queue for the shuttle bus queue back to Kovan. Ended up, walk to the bus stop at Tampines road and took the SBS bus back to Kovan. Have breakfast there and left for home.
Overall, quite a good free organised run. Distance markers are accurate, except portion of the tunnel are quite stuffy.
