Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2010.

This morning is Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2010. 2nd time running this event. As i was sick a few days ago, there is absolutely no chance of getting a PB which i got for last year.

Did not have a really good sleep. Something like wake up at 2+, sky was reddish. Anytime will rain. Wake up at 3+, it was pouring. Proceed to close all the windows in the house. Wake up at 0510 hrs and it was still raining. Did the normal preparation. Msg Soo telling him to meet at Bishan at 0600 hrs. Reach the Expo carpark at around 0625 hrs. It was still raining all along. For the record, the rain only lessen at around 1030 hrs when we reach back to Expo.

Took the shuttle bus and it brought us to Changi Village bus interchange. Walk to the bus stop before the start point which is about 200-300m away to meet up with Tom and his brother-in-law. So just took shelter at the bus stop and wait to see whether the run will go on or not as the rain is still quite heavy.

The rest proceed to the start point first while i was the last to leave the bus stop. No choice, this will be my first run under the rain from start to end. Before the start point, managed to get a poncho from one of the volunteer. So i decide to try running with a poncho and see how it goes. If it becomes too hot, i can remove it anytime during the run.

There was a slight delay but the horn still goes off to signify the start of the run. As i started some distance back, there was a fair bit of zig zag trying to overtake slower runners especially in the first 3km. Even managed to be "tap" by Yuen See within the first km. After that, there was more space to run. When i saw the 5km banner, taking a look at my polar watch, it was about 29 mins+. I realised that there would be a chance that i could do a sub 1 hr. So i try to maintain a pace of 6min. Stop at water point to drink and even have to stop to tie one of my shoelace.

Unfortuntely, i did not managed to see anymore distance marker to see whether i'm still on track. The next marker is the 9km mark inside the Changi Prison Complex. Looking at my watch, it was showing about 54min 30sec. That would means that i would need to hit under 5min 30 sec for the last km. So decide to give it a try no matter what. The last km was really an all out, HR shoots up to 190.

After crossing the finished line, i stopped my watch, it shows 59:56, so if i'm correct, i should get my sub 1. Official result later in the day shows 59:51. So I'm happy that i still can obtained a sub 1. This is actually only my second time that i managed to get a sub 1.

Went to get some drink, milo, collect the goodies bag. Soo and Cheong is already at the main tent waiting for the rest of us. Yuen See join us when he has completed his run. Tom is already waiting for the shuttle bus to be ferry back to Expo. So we decide to join in the queue for the shuttle bus. The queue is well managed and the shuttle bus are plenty.

Reach Expo and had breakfast before heading home. Carpark charges was $11. Reach home at exactly 12pm.
