Run on 27 Jan - tanglin loop.

Time taken : 48 mins 06 secs
Distance : 7.44 km
Avg Speed : 9.3 km/h, 6min 27sec per km.

Rain on wednesday, so no run. Decide to run today. Ran the tanglin loop (river valley, alexandre rd, tanglin rd, grange rd) giving Yuen See a headstart of about 9 minutes. Did not see Yuen See till the ending point. 9 minutes headstart is simply to huge.

Singapore Duathlon 2011.

First race of 2011. This is also my first time attempting multi sport event.
To make my registration fee worthwhile, i choose to attempt the full event which is 10km run, 40km bike and 5km run.
The event is at East Coast park.
4 laps of 2.5km, 6 laps of 6.06km, 2 laps of 2.5km.

Packed my mountain bike (MTB) into the back of my car on Saturday night.
Pinned one of the bib at the front of my running t-shirt. Pinned the other bib at the back of my cycling jersey. I will be running and biking with my cycling tights.
Packed my fuel belt with 1 bottle for the run leg. Packed 3 power gel also. 1 water bottle on my MTB also.

My wave starting time is at 1145 hrs. So i woke up at 0800 hrs. This is the first time i woke up so late for a race event.
The plan was to leave home at 0900 hrs and try to reach there before 1000 hrs. This will allowed me ample time to find parking space (no problem with parking space at all, I parked at D4) and set up my bike at the transition area.

Reached the carpark around 1000 hrs. As the transition area is at E3, i will be passing the running path while riding there. There are already runners running, the first wave started at 0900 hrs.

The transition area is huge, after finding my allocated space, i rack my MTB. Jersey and gloves in plastic bag, power gels in jersey and helmet hanging from bike handle. As there was ample time before by starting time. I managed to walk around to see the run and bike u turn point.

My race start promptly after a briefing by the official. First was 10km run. The run proceeded quite smoothly. Ample water point, 3 of them for each 2.5km loop. As usual, the time for each loop became longer. At the 9km point, i even stop and walk for a short distance.

After the 10km run, proceeded into the transition area to collect the bike. Took my first power gel. After a long transition time, when i was pushing the bike out, i got a feeling of throwing up. Most probably i drank too much during the run.

For the bike leg, the strategy is just to completed 1 lap at a time. Almost every rider overtook me on their racing bike. I think less than 5% is on MTB. Salute to those guys that actually use the East Coast rental bike for the bike leg. For the first 1 hours, i only managed to clocked 21km. I actually planned to stop once on the bike leg to drink and take the power gel. In the end, i managed to took the power gel on the start of the 5th lap without needing to stop.

After 6 laps, it time for the last 5km run. My legs almost crumpled beneath me when i try to run into the transition area with my bike after dismounting. In the end, i just walk with my bike into the transition area. Took my last power gel before running out.

For the 5km run leg, i was already quite tired. For this 2 laps, i did lots of walking. Only managed to run whenever there is a down slope. Crossed the finish line after approximately 3 hrs and 45 minutes and they hang the finisher medal on my neck. I completed my first duathlon.

They collected back the championship chip that is strapped to my ankle. I proceed back to the transition area. Instead of collecting my bike first, i decided to go to the food centre to eat. I was really hungry. After eating fish ball noodles, i collected my bike, rode back to carpark D4. Stored the bike and drove home. Reached home at 1700 hrs.
