NEW SLIMMER AND LIGHTER PlayStation®3 AND PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) go TO HIT SINGAPORE MARKET ON 1ST OCTOBER 2009

Date : 2009-09-17

Singapore, September 17, 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong Ltd. (SCEH) today unveiled the new PlayStation®3 (CECH-2006A) (body color: charcoal black) computer entertainment system, featuring an extremely streamlined form factor with a 120GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD), and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) go (PSP-N1006), a new evolution of PSP handheld entertainment system, specifically designed to suit the digital lifestyle of consumers who enjoy downloadable content on the go. The new PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system and PSPgo will become available in stores from October 1, 2009, in Singapore at a very attractive suggested retail price (SRP) of SG$512 and SG$412 respectively.

The new PS3’s storage size has increased to 120GB, and with the extra capacity users will be able to store more games, music, photos, videos as well as various content and services available through PlayStation®Network. Compared to the very first PS3 model with 60GB HDD, the internal volume as well as its thickness and weight are trimmed down to approximately two-thirds. Furthermore, power consumption is also cut to two-thirds, helping to reduce fan noise.

Customers can choose to purchase the separately sold “Vertical Stand” (CECH-2000) for the new PS3, to set the new PS3 in vertical position, making it easier to place the PS3 system anywhere at home. This “Vertical Stand” will be also available in stores from 1st Oct, with SRP SG$36.

In addition to the extensive software title line-up of PS3, exciting and attractive new titles are to be released from SCE Worldwide Studios, including Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, EyePet, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, MAG, ModNation Racer, Gran Turismo 5 and more.

PSPgo replaces the UMD drive*3 with 16GB of flash memory to store a variety of digital entertainment content, offering users unlimited possibilities of portable digital entertainment delivered through PlayStation®Network. PSPgo, smaller and lighter than ever with a sophisticated design featuring an easy sliding display panel, is truly pocket-sized and can be taken everywhere. PSPgo will be available in Piano Black and Pearl White, two of the most popular colors since the launch of the PSP system. More and more new and attractive titles will become available for download from PlayStation®Store as well as on UMD. This broad content offering across all genres includes free-demos, PS one® classics for PSP, add-on items for game titles, trailers and new games, including Gran Turismo & LittleBigPlanet. Besides, a new section “minis” will be available on PlayStation®Store, offering a variety of small yet mighty downloadable games to users.

In addition to accessing PlayStation®Store directly from PSP using the built-in wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) feature or through the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system, users will also be able to access and download a variety of entertainment content via their PCs using Media Go*4, a new software application. This easy to use software application will be available on a CD-ROM bundled with PSPgo. Also this fall, a new music application specific to PSP that uses the “SensMe™ channels”*5 music recommendation feature, developed by Sony, also becomes available for download on PSP.

In order to enable users to enjoy games and videos anytime, anywhere, there is a strong peripheral line-up for PSPgo. One of the products within PSPgo’s peripheral line-up is an Accessory Pack (PSPAS-10000G/GW), which includes a pouch, a strap and a display protect film. Also included in the peripheral line-up are AC Adaptor (PSP-N100G), Component AV Cable (PSP-N180), In-Ear Headset (98581AS), Traveler Case (98585AS), Soft Carrying Case (98586AS) and a new Cradle*6 (PSP-N340G) which enables users to charge the PSPgo battery and also enjoy watching video and listening to music. All these peripheral items will be available in stores in October 2009.

Along with a vast line-up of attractive and exciting entertainment content with the new PS3 system and PSPgo, SCE will continue to further expand the PlayStation platforms and create a new world of computer entertainment.

Customers who purchased a new PS3, can be rewarded a limited edition T-shirt. For customers who purchased a PSPgo, they can get an umbrella as a premium. All premiums are available while stocks last.

Damn, i expect it to cost $499 as MS dropped their elite set pricing to $499.
Guess Sony want to earn extra $13 for every set. Hopefully local shop can sell it cheaper.
