TNF (The North Face) 100 2011 part 1.

This morning is TNF 100.

2nd time doing the 100km DUO with Stanley. Last year brought back a DNF instead of a medal.
So with more than 10 sunday trail trainings at MacRitchie, Bukit Timah and Gansa trail, i hope to at least complete it this time.

The night before, packed 1.5 chocolate bars and 4 powerbar gel.
Woke up at 0515 hrs eat 1 floss bun and a cup of milo. Fill up water bag with ice.
Left home at 0615 hrs to take bus 156 to MacRitchie.
Stanley was already there and Soo ran there as part of his saturday run.
Took some pictures before heading to the starting point. The zig zag bridge is now open to public.

Took the weight of my bag and total weight was almost 3.3kg. Proceed into the starting pen to wait for the 8am start.
As usual, the whole route was a series of up and down slope. But this time, i'm running in familiar ground as i've a few trail training this time.
After WP1, Stanley zoom ahead of me and was no where to be seen.
There was inadequate road signs. At the durian loop, there as no road signs and we decide to take the right route.

Along the bukit timah route, i somehow missed the road signs and emerged at another location, end up needed to run up the road to WP2 to take my timing,
Saw Stanley leaving WP2 when i arrived.
After Zhenghua park, did some running at the Gansa trail before arriving at Mandai road which is WP4. At this point, i caught up with Stanley.

Lorong Asrama was next. There was some change this year, I ran along Mandai road and turn left into the park connector.
Stanley and me ran along and i move ahead at the park connector.
Inside Lorong Asrama, i keep thinking that history was going to repeat itself with the endless slopes and the super hot weather.
At least for this year, i can managed some downslope jogging.
There was also an additional water point at the middle, before the Hill 265. This time round, they provide a white towel and this was really a godsend.
Soaked the whole towel in ice water and cover the head, the sun does not feel so hot anymore. The soaking of the towel was repeated at every water point.

Eddie came with his mountain bike to support this year. Missed us when we arrived at Mandai. So we arranged to meet at the 30.5km mark.
Wow, he came with lots of 100+ and even chocolate bar. Unfortunately, i can only take 1 can, unable to drink more or eat.
We moved together for a while before I suggested to him to stop and wait for Stanley who will be arriving later.

There was still 3km to go before exiting Lorong Asrama to reach WP4. Last year, i declared game over here and took their ambulance to the starting point.
The time to reach here is almost the same, 5 hours and 45 minutes. This time round, i decided to proceed on.
After some quick mental calculation, i actually realised that i may even meet the cutoff time of 9 hours.
So i forced myself to jogged whenever possible instead of just walking. The Gansa trail seems so endless and i was afraid i missed any road signs that lead to Zhenghua park.
I even called out infornt. "Anybody there!" No response. So i just had to continue. In the end, i was on the right track when i saw the sign that lead to Zhenghua park.
This was the 2nd last WP and there was about 12 more km to go.

So for the last 12km, whenever i can jogged, i tried to do it. Was very happy that i exited the MacRitchie trail and saw the 48.9km mark.
A quick look at my watch and i should be able to complete within 9 hours. Time of completing 8:52.

My handphone battery is flat after exiting Lorong Asrama. Waited for Stanley at the ending point and i must have missed him somehow.
Proceed to the MacRitchie cafe to eat Nasi Lemak before taking bus home. Only reach home at 8+. Slept at 9+.

Thanks to all who took pictures at raceday.
