Primary school news.

Phase 2C of P1 registration begins

SINGAPORE: Phase 2C of the Primary 1 registration began on Tuesday. This phase is for children who have yet to enrol in a primary school.

So far, 58 out of 190 primary schools are oversubscribed, having received more applicants than vacancies.

This year, online registration for Phase 2C was also introduced for 80 primary schools.

But it appears that parents still prefer to go down to the school personally to register their children.

Some of the schools offering online registration told Channel NewsAsia that only 30 per cent of the registrations were made through the Internet.

Meanwhile, three new schools will welcome their first batch of Primary 1 students next year.

But as the schools are still under construction, they have received some help from neighbouring schools.

One school, West Spring Primary, received help from staff members of Beacon Primary.

Mrs Jacintha Lim, the principal of West Spring Primary, said: “At Beacon, what they have done is that they have actually given us the whole school hall for the Phase 2C registration.

“They have actually given us the logistics, they have given us the venue, and they have given us the manpower. In that sense, it is very useful in helping us because as I mentioned, we don't have a permanent school building as yet.”

The Phase 2C registration exercise will end on Thursday.
