Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2008.

My second marathon attempt.

With all the training done for the past few months, including a few 4 hours 30km run, if nothing bad happen, should be a better timing than last year 6:51:25. Actually i was aiming for a sub 6 hours timing.

Slept at around 10pm the previous night, woke up at 2:45am. Ate 1.5 piece of breadtalk floss bun. Got prepared and dressed. Decide to drive there, legs should be strong enough to drive back home. Packed 5 packets of Powerbar Gel. To be taken every hourly. Brought Deep Heating Rub along, but not necessary as there is plenty along the road. Brought handphone along to take picture.

Parked at Raffles City at around 4:15am. Walk to the starting point while sipping 100+.

Visited the mobile toilet, first time at around 4:30am. No queue. 2nd time at around 4:50am and there is a sizeable queue. About 10-11 person deep. Proceed to the starting point at around 5:10am.

Race start promptly at 5:30am. Strategy is to do a 9 mins jog with 1 min walk. Last year was 4 mins jog and 1 min walk all the way. As i stopped at nearly all water point to refill water or 100+, it was actually not 9 mins job and 1 min walk.

Polar watch acted up again at 15km when it can't detact the footpod and constantly show 0.0km/h for the speed. There is also other time where it can't detect the footpod as the footpod only show 40.xx km.

Was able to follow the strategy till the 30km mark. Then slowed down considerably. At the 35km mark, time show is a little shy of 5 hours. So still left 1 hr to complete the 7.125km. Unfortunately, i just cannot run anymore and was just reduce to brisk walking.

Ended up with Gun time of 6:6:26 and Chip time of 6:5:38. At least I achieve a PB. Well sub 6 hours can wait till SCSM 2009.

Proceed to return the championship and collect my finisher medal and t-shirt. By that time, no more S size finisher T-shirt.

Went back to carpark to change into dry clothing and sandal.
