My 6th marathon today.
Went to bed at around 2215hrs. Woke up at 0235hrs, 10 minutes earlier compare to last year.
As my stuffs was packed the night earlier (5 power bar gel, 1/2 tube of deep heat, fuel belt with 1 bottle), preparation went quite fast.
Ate 1 floss bun with a cup of milo and left home at around 0320 hrs.
Reach Killiney road at around 0345 hrs, no jam compare to last year at Scott road.
One of the main reason must be due to the 24 hours train service by SMRT and SBS transit.
Kudos to the organiser for arranging with the transport operators to run the train service.
Parked the car, pinned the bib and proceed to walk to the starting point.
This year did not meet any familiar face at the starting point. No Soo and Stanley in sight.
Went to Mandarin Hotel toilet before the race at around 0430 hrs, fortunately the queue was not very long.
Luckily, i did not need use the baggage service, according to some runners, they spend almost 1 hour to deposit the bag and when the race was flagged off at 0500hrs, some was still waiting to deposit their bag.
Runners was separated into starting pens. I was in the last pen. So there was some distance to cover before i crossed the starting line. The race was flagged off at 0500hrs sharp.
Race route was exactly like last year. During the first 10km, it was basically still ok. But after that, i was constantly "burping" and feel very uncomfortable at the stomach and indeed at the 14km mark, i vomited out. Luckily, there was nobody in front of me. So i decided to go pretty slow with long stretch of walking at the 14km mark till the u turn point. At some point, i even thought of giving up the race by doing a short cut to the opposite side at ECP.
Feeling better after the u turn point, i tried a bit of jogging by following my heart beat. Once it dropped to around 143, i started to jog till it reach around 165. Then i reduced the jog to a walk. At every water point, i will "refresh" myself by pouring water over my head, my thigh and calf. Luckily this tactics till the end of the race. At the 30km mark, with a 4.5 hours timing, there was no way i can hit the 6 hours mark. The next target will be 6.5 hours. The only thing that i'm pleased with myself is that i can still jog after 30km, while most of the runners beside me was walking. Finally crossed the finished line at 6hrs and 23mins.
Not a very good marathon result but was happy to complete it. No queue while collecting my medal and finisher t shirt.
Proceed to the SingTel tent and saw Stanley sitting there very relaxed. This would means that he has beaten me for the first time in a race. Checked his timing to confirm it and he indeed was faster than me by 7 minutes. Saw Soo and he did 5hrs and 40mins due to cramp. Run leader Lai Yin did 5hrs and 57mins.
This would also meant that i have won my bet with Eddie, Tom and Yuen See. If i win Stanley, i would gave them a treat and vice versa.
Took the MRT back to office, head up to office to change and drove to AMK to buy lunch. Reach home at around 1415 hrs.
