SAFRA Singapore Bay Run & Army Half Marathon (SSBR & AHM) 2013.

Today is AHM. Running this year as the registration fees was just $12 as a recognition for the service to the nation.

Prepared bib and 1 power gels last night. Set alarm clock to ring at 0300 hrs. Did the normal preparation and left home at around 0345 hrs. Drove and parked at Raffles City as usual at around 0415 hrs (parking charges $6.00).

Supposed to meet up with Eddie outside the MacDonald at 0430 hrs. But he left home late and was still stuck somewhere outside Istana.

Proceed to the starting point, esplanade bridge. As i went in quite early, i managed to start near the starting point. The race promptly start at 0515 hrs. My longest lead up run was 16km. So target is to better my last year time.

As my mileage was quite low for the past 3 months, coupled with no long training run, my target was to better AHM 2010 timing (below 2:38).

Same strategy as last year. Stopped at every water point and see how far my legs can carry me.

I think the route was also the same as last year.

At the 7km mark under Sheares bridge, bam, same choke point as last year. I think took slighty faster to clear compared to last year. Eddie started late and he said he stuck there for 20 minutes.

No other chokepoint this year.

On and off did some walking in between the water point. Consumed my only pack of power gel at the 13km mark.

Water point this year is good, tables are long and did not need to wait for them to refill. Some 100plus are cold was was just what i needed.

Finally took about 2:33+ to complete the race. After collecting the finisher T (there is one this year), medal and 100+ left the place as i need to rush back home so that the car can be used for Isaac Electone lesson.
